The Ambassadorial-level meeting of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) was held on 24 September 2026 at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

The meeting discussed Kazakhstan’s candidacy for the position of Vice-Chair of the LLDC Group, the way forward for the Transit Corridor Observatory initiative, as well as the continuation of LLDC-focused discussions within the WTO Committee on Trade and Development.

In her remarks, H.E. Ms. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia, noted Kazakhstan’s active contribution to advancing the common priorities of LLDCs in the areas of transit, trade facilitation and regional cooperation, and expressed Mongolia’s support for Kazakhstan’s candidacy for Vice-Chair of the Group.

Ambassador Gerelmaa also recalled that Mongolia had introduced the proposal to establish a Transit Corridor Observatory at the Dedicated Session on Transit of the WTO Committee on Trade Facilitation in June 2026. She emphasized that, in further developing the initiative, it would be important to clearly define its scope and indicators, data sources and verification, updating arrangements and institutional responsibilities, while making effective use of existing data and avoiding duplication.

She further underscored that the Observatory should be practical, transparent and Member-driven, and should not create any new rights or obligations for WTO Members.
