A high-level panel discussion was held on September 17 during the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

At the panel discussion, Permanent Representative and Ambassador D. Gerelmaa delivered Mongolia’s national statement, highlighting the significance of the two International Covenants, which have given concrete legal expression to rights fundamental to human dignity. She emphasized that the priority for the next 60 years should be a renewed commitment to the implementation of the Covenants.

The Permanent Representative further noted that emerging challenges, including digital technologies, privacy, environmental degradation, and climate change, require us to ensure that human rights protections remain effective in a rapidly changing world. She affirmed that Mongolia stands ready to continue contributing to this common endeavour by further strengthening its democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law, protecting fundamental freedoms, and engaging constructively with the international human rights system.
