At the invitation of H.E. Mr. U. Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia, H.E. Ms. Viola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation, paid a state visit to Mongolia on 2–4 August 2024. During this historic visit, the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Democracy, marking a new milestone in our bilateral cooperation.
In follow up to this Memorandum, Mongolia and Switzerland launched the Bilateral Democracy Dialogue mechanism this year and convened virtually its first meeting on 8 September 2026.

The Dialogue brought together representatives of the Office of the President of Mongolia and the Peace and Human Rights Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland along with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Embassy of Mongolia in Geneva.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on democratic governance, institutional development, and areas of mutual interest. They agreed to continue the dialogue on a regular basis, strengthen cooperation, and exchange good practices and experiences.

The establishment of the Democracy Dialogue reflects the shared commitment of Mongolia and Switzerland to advancing democratic values, enhancing governance, and deepening their long standing partnership.
