PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION DISCUSSED
H.E. Ms. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, met with Ms. Anda Filip, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on 6 August 2026.
During the meeting, the two sides commended the longstanding relations and the current level of cooperation between Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. They exchanged views on opportunities to further expand cooperation in strengthening parliamentary democracy, protecting human rights, advancing gender equality, and promoting the political participation of young people.
H.E. Ms. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, briefed Ms. Anda Filip, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on the “World Women Parliamentarians’ Forum,” to be held in Ulaanbaatar on 12-13 October 2026 under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia. She also presented Ms. Anda Filip with an official invitation from H.E. Mr. Sandag Byambatsogt, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, to participate in the Forum.
Ambassador Davaasuren Gerelmaa also provided information on the seventeenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, to be held in Ulaanbaatar from 17 to 28 August 2026 under the theme “Restoring Land, Restoring Hope.” She underscored the importance of the Conference in galvanising international efforts to address desertification, land degradation, and the adverse impacts of drought, while fostering greater parliamentary engagement and leadership in these areas.
Mongolia joined the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1962 and has since remained actively engaged in the work of the organization. In February 2026, Ms. Odsuren Nominchimeg, a Member of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, was elected President of the IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and currently serves in that capacity.
