MONGOLIA SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES ITS TENURE AS COORDINATOR OF THE GROUP OF LANDLOCKED DEVELOPING COUNTRIES (LLDCs) IN GENEVA
On 22 June 2026, Ambassador and Permanent Representative Davaasuren Gerelmaa chaired the Ambassadorial-level meeting of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in Geneva, during which she presented the working report of the Group Coordinator for 2025–2026 and held an in‑depth discussion with member states on future engagement in advancing the LLDCs shared priorities.
From September 2025 to June 2026, Mongolia actively served as Coordinator of the Group of LLDCs in Geneva. The Permanent Mission of Mongolia closely cooperated with the Permanent Missions of the 32 LLDCs in Geneva, as well as with the Geneva-based WTO, UNCTAD, UNECE, ITC, ITU and the Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-ORHLLS) based in New York.
During its LLDCs Group coordinator tenure, Mongolia chaired the LLDCs Ministerial Meeting held in October 2025 in Geneva on the margins of the UNCTAD16, as well as the LLDCs Ministerial Meeting convened in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in March 2026 during the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference.
Both meetings successfully adopted joint LLDCs Ministerial declarations, UNCTAD TD/545 and W/MIN/26/26, reflecting the responsible and proactive leadership of Mongolia as Coordinator of the LLDCs Group, which was highly commended by the LLDCs fellow Member states.
Working as the Coordinator of the group for nine months, the Permanent Mission of Mongolia aimed its modest contribution in addressing the unique challenges faced by LLDCs, reaffirming their common interests, expanding opportunities in global trade, development, investment, digital transformation, and regional integration, as well as implementing of the “Awaza Programme of Action for LLDCs 2024–2034”.
At the end of today’s meeting, Ambassador D. Gerelmaa formally handed over the Group’s coordination role to Ambassador Sharaf Sheralizoda, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan, and conveyed her best wishes for Tajikistan’s responsible endeavors.
