PARTICIPATION IN THE AETR WORKING PARTY SESSION
On 8 June 2026, the delegation led by H.E. Ms. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, participated in the 41st session of the Group of Experts on the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport (AETR) and the session of the Working Party on Road Transport, held in Geneva.
During the session, the participants considered proposed amendments to the Agreement aimed at facilitating Mongolia’s accession to the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport. The proposal received the support of the members of the Working Party.
In addition, the Mongolian delegation held a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission, during which it expressed its appreciation for the Commission’s continued support for Mongolia’s accession process.
Mongolia’s accession to the Agreement will be of significant importance for introducing international standards and advanced technologies into the country’s transport sector, aligning drivers’ working and rest periods with international norms, preventing road traffic accidents, and enhancing transport safety.
Furthermore, the Agreement will create the conditions for the introduction of digital control technologies, including digital tachographs and smart cards, thereby enabling transport operations to be monitored in a transparent, accurate and internationally compliant manner. This will constitute an important step towards advancing the digital transformation of Mongolia’s transport sector.
The accession will also establish a stronger legal framework for Mongolian transport operators and national enterprises to carry out international road transport operations along routes connecting Europe, Asia and Central Asia, opening up new opportunities to compete in the international market.
