The Rietberg Museum in Zurich proudly inaugurated the cultural-historical exhibition titled “Mongolia: A Journey Through Time” on October 23, 2025. The exhibition will remain open to the public until March 2026. Organized within the framework of cultural cooperation between the Governments of Mongolia and the Swiss Confederation, this event showcases two millennia of Mongolian heritage and serves as a significant platform for introducing Mongolia’s historical development, social structure, and cultural distinctiveness to the international audience.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Ms. D.Gerelmaa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Switzerland; Mr. B.Davaatseren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia; Ms. Corine Mauch, Mayor of Zurich; Academician Mr. S. Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and Dr. Annette Bhagwati, Director of the Rietberg Museum. The dignitaries emphasized the exhibition’s role as a cultural bridge that deepens mutual understanding and strengthens bilateral relations.
“Mongolians: A Journey Through Time” highlights the origins of the Xiongnu Empire, the foundations of a vast nomadic civilization across the Central Asian steppes, and the unique features of Mongolian social and military organization. Key themes include the strategic importance of horses, the engineering of bows and arrows, and the decimal-based military structure — all of which reflect the distinctive legacy of Mongolia’s cultural and historical evolution.
