H.E. Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, met with Dr. Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention on Wetlands), at the Convention Secretariat on 28 October 2025.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Mongolia and the Ramsar Convention in advancing the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands of international importance.

Permanent Representative and Ambassador Gerelmaa reaffirmed Mongolia’s steadfast commitment to the objectives of the Ramsar Convention and emphasized the vital role of wetlands in supporting biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting sustainable livelihoods, particularly within the context of Mongolia’s unique ecosystems.

Secretary-General Dr. Mumba welcomed Mongolia’s efforts to strengthen wetland management and its commitment to regional and international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to further deepen cooperation and to work together in pursuit of the goals of the Ramsar Convention and the broader United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Mongolia joined the Ramsar Convention on April 8, 1998, underscoring its strong and enduring commitment to the protection and wise use of wetlands, as well as its contribution to international efforts to preserve their essential role in maintaining ecological balance.
