ONGOLIA WORKS AS A COORDINATOR OF THE GROUP OF LANDLOCKED DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IN GENEVA
In connection with Mongolia’s assumption of the role of Coordinator of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in Geneva on 8 September 2025, the first Ambassadorial Meeting of the Group was held at the WTO on 24 September 2025.
The meeting was attended by 20 out of 32 Members of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries, and representatives of 15 Members expressed their views and delivered statements.
In their remarks, Members extended their gratitude to Mongolia for assuming this important responsibility in the lead-up to the 16th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) and the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference.
Permanent Representative, Ambassador D. Gerelmaa, proposed short and long-term plans of the Group and called for active engagement on the draft of Joint Declaration to be adopted at the Ministerial Roundtable on LLDCs during UNCTAD16 in October 2025.
Representatives from the WTO Trade and Development Division and the UNCTAD Project and Economic Affairs Unit took part in the Ambassadorial-level meeting and presented their brief reports on ongoing activities addressing the unique challenges of LLDCs.
LLDCs Group Members agreed to work actively towards the implementation of the Azawa Programme of Action for LLDCs, the outcome of the Third UN Conference for LLDCs, initiation of a Work Programme for LLDCs within the WTO framework and the establishment of a Formal Working Group of LLDCs within the WTO.
