INTERNATIONAL DAY OF VESAK CELEBRATED

In accordance with Resolution 54/115, adopted by the 54th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Buddha’s Birthday is celebrated annually at the UN Headquarters in Geneva.

This year’s event, held on May 14, was attended by Permanent Representatives from Buddhist countries.

The Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Mongolia, H.E. Mrs. D. Gerelmaa, attended the event and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate this sacred occasion alongside fellow Buddhists. She emphasized that the timeless teachings of the Buddha continue to play a vital role in fostering global peace, advancing social and economic progress, and safeguarding human rights.

The Ambassador also quoted the Buddha, stating that the true purpose of life is not to endure suffering, but to realize happiness, a universal aspiration that transcends borders and beliefs. She added that it is upon this noble ideal that the United Nations was founded to uphold the dignity and well-being of all humanity.
