The farewell ceremony for the late head of state of the Holy See, Pope Francis, took place in Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City. Representing the Government of Mongolia, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ms. Battsetseg Batmunkh attended the ceremony and paid respects.
Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, who was elected as Pope in 2013, made invaluable contributions to promoting world peace, fostering mutual respect among nations, and spreading compassion and mercy to humanity.
For the first time in the history of relations between Mongolia and the Holy See, Pope Francis made a state visit to Mongolia in 2023. This visit marked a significant milestone, opening a new chapter in diplomatic ties between the two countries.
During his state visit, Pope Francis described the Mongolian people as a symbol of religious and spiritual freedom, and highly valued Mongolia’s contributions to world peace and harmony.
More than 150 heads of state and government officials from around the world attended the ceremony to bid farewell to Pope Francis.
