On April 8, 2025, H.E. Mrs. Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, participated in the High-Level Segment of the 28th Session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD), held in Geneva, Switzerland. During the session, she delivered a presentation on the Government of Mongolia’s policies and actions aimed at the development of science, technology, and innovation (STI) parks.

In her presentation, Ambassador and Permanent Representative Gerelmaa Davaasuren emphasized that the Government of Mongolia is, for the first time, in the process of drafting and enacting a Law on the Legal Status of Science and Technology Parks. She also highlighted the importance of a collaborative project being implemented in partnership with the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), aimed at advancing the development of STI parks in Mongolia. This joint project is a vital step toward enhancing the legislative and regulatory environment, as well as building the institutional and human resource capacities of key stakeholders and decision-makers in the STI sector.

Since October 2023, the Government of Mongolia, in collaboration with UNCTAD, has been implementing a project entitled “Science, Technology, and Innovation Parks for Sustainable Development: Strengthening Mongolia's Policy Environment and Practical Capacity.” The project is scheduled for completion in 2026. Within the framework of the project, efforts are focused on establishing an integrated national policy and institutional framework, reinforcing human resource development, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of Mongolia’s STI parks, analyzing best practices from other developing countries, formulating policy recommendations, and fostering international collaboration.

The 28th Session of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development is being convened in Geneva from April 7 to 11, 2025. Functioning under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Commission serves as a key platform for addressing global issues related to science, technology, and development, while offering informed policy guidance. UNCTAD serves as the Secretariat of the Commission and provides essential technical and organizational support to its proceedings.
