REPRESENTATIVES LED BY THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MONGOLIA H.E MR. DORJKHAND TOGMID PARTICIPATED IN THE 55TH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
Representatives led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia H.E Mr. Dorjkhand Togmid successfully attended the 55th Annual World Economic Forum that took place from January 20-24, 2025, in Davos, Switzerland under the theme of 'Collaboration for the Intelligent Age’.
The forum discussed major global and regional challenges, including responding to geopolitical risks, supporting economic growth to improve living standards, and ensuring a fair and inclusive energy transition.
On the first day of the 55th Annual World Economic Forum, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. T. Dorjkhand and Mr. Olivier Schwab, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, signed a cooperation agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the World Economic Forum to implement the 'Strategic Intelligence Platform' project. Mongolia became the second country to sign this agreement with the World Economic Forum, which will implement an artificial intelligence-based information and analysis platform designed to assist government leaders in making strategic and optimal decisions. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E Ms. Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Switzerland, and H.E. Ms. Nomin Chinbat, Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth of Mongolia.
Additionally, on January 21, Deputy Prime Minister T. Dorjkhand signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to collaborate on the development of renewable energy and advancing climate goals. On January 22, he signed another memorandum of cooperation with the 'Envision' group from China. According to these documents, Mongolia will work with the EBRD to develop renewable energy, build solar power plants with a capacity of up to 300 megawatts along with power transmission lines, and advance climate change objectives. With the 'Envision' group, Mongolia will cooperate to establish a 500-megawatt energy storage battery plant, export renewable energy, and create green jobs.
Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister T. Dorjkhand met with H.E Mr. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, and H.E. Mr. Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the United Arab Emirates. During these meetings, he provided information about the 14 mega projects being implemented by the Government of Mongolia, the mining sector, and the investment environment. They exchanged views on cooperation in the energy sector and investment issues. Furthermore, over 10 business meetings were held during the forum.
Deputy Prime Minister T. Dorjkhand participated in the open session titled Accelerating Land Restoration' organized by the World Economic Forum on January 24. He presented the major challenges Mongolia faces related to land degradation, desertification, and climate change, as well as the policies and actions taken by the Government of Mongolia to combat desertification and restore land. He also discussed Mongolia's goals and initiatives, such as hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP 17) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in 2026, and the initiative to establish an 'International Alliance on Sustainable Pasture and Land Issues for the Future.' He urged participants to collaborate on making these initiatives a reality. The open session also featured presentations by Iraqi President H.E. Mr. Abdul L. Rashid, UNCCD Executive Secretary Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, South African Minister of Agriculture H.E. Mr. John Steenhuisen, Director-General of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research Ms. Ismahane Elouafi, and New AeroFarms CEO Ms. Molly Montgomery.
One of the notable events of this forum was the opening of the 'Mongolia House' pavilion for the first time to promote Mongolia. In this pavilion, more than ten bilateral and multilateral meetings, discussions, and cultural events on topics such as renewable energy, mining, tourism, and artificial intelligence were organized. On January 22, Deputy Prime Minister T. Dorjkhand gave an interview to Mr. Richard Quest, an international news anchor from CNN, discussing the mining market, investment issues, and other topics of interest. This interview was a significant step in promoting the government's policies and activities internationally.
Deputy Prime Minister T. Dorjkhand also participated as a speaker in the discussions held at the 'Mongolia House' pavilion, including 'Climate Change: Green Transition and Investment,' 'Mining Transition: Sustainable Development of Mongolia's Mining Sector,' 'Energy Transition: Renewable Energy Resources of Mongolia,' and 'Small Countries Leading the Artificial Intelligence Revolution.'"
