REPRESENTATIVES OF THE JUDICIAL DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE OF MONGOLIA PAYS A WORKING VISIT TO SWITZERLAND

Representatives of the Judicial Disciplinary Committee of Mongolia, headed by the Chairwoman of the Committee Mrs. Ts. Davharbayar, paid a working visit to the Swiss Confederation from 16-19 September 2024.

On September 17, the representatives of the Judicial Disciplinary Committee worked in the city of Sion, canton of Valais, and had the privilege to meet with the President of the Cantonal Tribunal, Mr. Bertrand Dayer, and the Chairwoman of the Judicial Council of the Canton, Ms. Carole Melly-Basili and got acquainted with the activities of these organizations, the process of resolving complaints relating to judges' ethical and disciplinary violations. On September 18, the JDC representatives met with Ms. Miranda Liniger Gros, judge member of the High Judicial Council of the canton of Geneva to familiarize themselves with the functions of the High Council. In Switzerland, each canton has its Judicial Council, an independent body which exercises administrative supervision and control of the activity of judicial magistrates, investigates complaints concerning judicial magistrates in the exercise of their functions. The High Judicial Council of Geneva is the first council established in 1947, whereas the Judicial Council of the canton of Valais is the newest body that became operational in 2020.

On September 18, the delegation also visited the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and met with the Chief of the Asia and Pacific Branch, Mr. Rory Mungoven and the Head of the Rule of Law Section, Mr. Simon Walker, as well as the representatives of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Secretariat of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers to discuss technical cooperation issues. The parties agreed to continue their exchanges through the respective channels.
