WTO PUBLIC FORUM: LLDCs DEDICATED HIGH LEVEL SESSION WAS HELD

Geneva, 10 September 2024. Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Mongolia Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa chaired the high-level session “Overcoming geography: digital trade in landlocked developing countries” which convened in the margins of the WTO Public Forum 2024.
 
The session welcomed H.E. Mr. Ram Prasad Subedi, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Vuyile Dumisani, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Eswatini, Mr. Torbjörn Fredriksson, Head E-commerce and Digital Economy Branch of UNCTAD and Mr. Alex Wong, Senior Advisor, Strategic Engagement and Initiatives Executive Office, ITU, diplomats and trade experts.
 
Participants emphasized the importance of collaboration between Landlocked developing countries in the regional blocs to overcome the unique obstacles faced by LLDCs in the global trade, the main bottlenecks and opportunities to digital trade in LLDCs, multilateral trading system contributions to “leaving no one disconnected’ to support digital trade from LLDCs and discussed over the draft of the new Programme of Action for LLDCs to be concluded at the Third UN Conference on LLDC in December 2024 in Botswana.
