114th SESSION OF THE IOM COUNCIL CONVENED IN GENEVA

The 114th Session of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) Council convened on 27-29 November in Geneva.
 
Representatives of 175 IOM Member states, 8 observer countries and international organizations attended the Session and evaluated the outcomes of the 113th Session of the Council, report of the 6th Special session, the 2024-2028 strategy of the IOM, and the 2024 budget and other agenda followed by the General debate.
 
Permanent Representative H.E. Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa made a statement at the General debate of the 114th Session of Council, expressing appreciation for the IOM’s fulfillment of its functions and leadership and the continuous technical assistances provided to the countries around the world. Permanent Representative informed the measures taken by the Government of Mongolia on the internal and external migration, efforts on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, Global Compact for Migration, and national long-term development policy of "Vision-2050".
 
IOM High-level segment, themed "Climate change affecting migration: a call for solutions", was held as well during the 114th Session. Heads of the Member states, observer states and representatives of the international organizations shared views on the climate change-induced migration, addressing and combating the causes of the illegal migration and displacement and determining the solutions.
Since becoming its Member in 2008, Mongolia has been actively cooperating with IOM in the sphere of enhancing border management, strengthening the human resource capacity, implementing number of projects and facilitating the return of the most vulnerable Mongolians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
