PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE D.GERELMAA MET WITH MARGARET SATTERTHWAITE, UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGES AND LAWYERS

On October 30, Permanent Representative Gerelmaa Davaasuren met with UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Margaret Satterthwaite, virtually, in connection with her upcoming visit to Mongolia next month.

They discussed the scope and program of the visit and exchanged opinions on issues of interest. Permanent Representative Gerelmaa Davaasuren briefed the Special Rapporteur on the steps the Government of Mongolia has been taking in the field of judicial reforms and wished success in her visit. Special Rapporteur thanked the Mongolian side for accepting her request and for effective cooperation in preparing for the visit.

Ms.Margaret Satterthwaite was appointed as UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers by the Human Rights Council in October 2022. Mongolia is the second country she is to visit since taking office. Special Rapporteur will work in the country from 6-15 November 2023.
