Mongolia Highlights the Importance of Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones
Ambassador Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, met with Dr. Robin Geiss, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), on 5 May 2023 and exchanged views on the cooperation prospects.
Highlighting Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status as an important contribution of the country to the global peace and security, the ambassador stressed the necessity of conducting research on the topics such as establishment of single state nuclear-weapon-free zones and guaranteeing negative security assurances to such zones.
UNIDIR is an autonomous institution within the United Nations that conducts independent research on disarmament and related problems, and it provide ideas and advice to facilitate multilateral dialogues and negotiations on arms control and disarmament.
