PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES OF MONGOLIA AND URUGUAY DISCUSS PREPARATIONS FOR HIGH-LEVEL EVENT ON PASTORALISM AND RANGELANDS
On June 5, 2026, H.E. Mrs. D. Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations, met with H.E. Mr. Gabriel Bellón, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uruguay to the World Trade Organization.
During the meeting, the two Permanent Representatives exchanged views on the preparations for the high-level event entitled “Linking Pastoralism and Nomadic Livestock with the Mandates of International Organizations in Geneva,” which will be held in Geneva on June 29, 2026, in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly resolution proclaiming the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.
The resolution, initiated by Mongolia, was adopted by the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on March 15, 2022. The International Year aims to raise global awareness of the vital role of rangelands and pastoralism in sustainable development, food security, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
