Geneva, 30 April 2026. Permanent Representative and Ambassador Davaasuren Gerelmaa held a meeting with the delegation led by Régis Savioz, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

At the meeting, Mr. Balthasar Staehelin, Special Envoy of the ICRC President and former Head of the Regional Delegation for East Asia, presented a brief information on his tenure. He underlined the broad opportunities to further deepen the humanitarian cooperation with Mongolia. The two sides highlighted that the ICRC’s mandate and leadership are crucial in the current global situation, and exchanged views on active engagement, support, and cooperation of the Government of Mongolia and the Mongolian Red Cross Society.

The parties emphasized that the “International Humanitarian Law Study: Research on the Implementation of IHL at the Domestic level” jointly carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the ICRC, and the Mongolian Red Cross Society, launched in November 2025 in Ulaanbaatar, marks a new beginning for undertaking coherent and sustainable national measures to strengthen the implementation of IHL.

Permanent Representative and Ambassador D. Gerelmaa reaffirmed the commitments of the Government of Mongolia and expressed readiness to further advance cooperation. She also noted Mongolia’s interest in including Mongolian organic products in international humanitarian assistance packages and in hosting the Northeast Asia regional logistics hub in Mongolia, hoping for continued assistance for these initiatives.

The ICRC, established in 1863, operates worldwide to provide humanitarian aid for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war.

Mongolian Red Cross Society was founded in 1939.
