The Rietberg Museum in Zurich is currently hosting the exhibition “Mongolia – A Journey Through Time”, jointly organized by the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, the Kharkhorum Museum, and the Institute of Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Opened in October 2025, the exhibition will remain on view until February 22, 2026.

The exhibition seeks to present Mongolia’s nomadic heritage to an international audience, highlight the global impact of Chinggis Khaan and the Mongol Empire, and convey historical truths to future generations. A total of 235 artifacts across 162 categories are on display, combining traditional heritage with contemporary artistic interpretations to challenge stereotypes and offer fresh perspectives on Mongolia’s history.

Through vivid displays, the exhibition illustrates Mongolia’s role as a cultural crossroads in Eurasia between the 1st and 14th centuries, emphasizing its contributions to exchanges of technology, goods, and ideas. This narrative has captured the interest of international visitors.

Curator L. Yesuntei and registrar S. Buyanjargal of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum oversaw the transfer of artifacts from Mongolia and completed the installation at the Rietberg Museum.

On December 6, 2025, Mongolia’s Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, B. Undram, visited the exhibition and underscored its importance in promoting Mongolia’s history and culture on the global stage.

Founded in 1952, the Rietberg Museum is Switzerland’s largest art museum, renowned for its extensive collections of traditional and contemporary art and cultural heritage. Housing approximately 23,000 artifacts and 37,000 ethnographic photographs, the museum attracts around 80,000 visitors annually. The ongoing exhibition stands as a testament to the enduring cultural dialogue between Mongolia and Switzerland.
