PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION DISCUSSED
On March 13, 2025, H.E. Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia, met with Mr. Vaggelis Igglesis, Chief of Staff of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The meeting featured productive discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between Mongolia and the ITU, with a particular focus on advancing information and communication technologies, promoting digitalization, fostering innovation, and leveraging digital technologies for sustainable development. Additionally, both parties exchanged views on the prospect of conducting high-level reciprocal visits within 2025 to further enhance collaboration.
Established as the International Telegraph Union on May 17, 1865, in Paris, the ITU holds the distinction of being the world’s first international telecommunications organization. The organization adopted its current name, the International Telecommunication Union, in 1932. Mongolia became a member in 1964. Today, the ITU operates as a specialized agency of the United Nations, dedicated to advancing information and communication technologies, with a membership of 194 countries.
