MONGOLIA’S SEVENTH PERIODIC REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COVENANT ON CIVIL AND POLITICAL RIGHTS CONSIDERED AT THE 143rd SESSION OF THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE
The UN Human Rights Committee is meeting in Geneva from March 3 to 28 for its 143rd session to consider the periodic reports of 6 member states on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The delegation of Mongolia headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, Mr. N. Myagmar participated in the meeting of the Commitee on March 10 and 11 during which Mongolia’s seventh periodic report was considered, and updated the Committee on the reforms undertaken and progress made in the policy and legal frameworks. The delegation members engaged in the ensuing dialogue with the Committee and answered questions raised by its members.
The Human Rights Committee commended progress made in increasing women's representation in parliament and discussed a wide range of issues, including freedom of expression, speech, press, and peaceful assembly, as well as efforts to combat air pollution, corruption, and human trafficking.
The delegation of Mongolia consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, State Prosecutor General's Office, Independent Authority Against Corruption, General Authority for Child and Family Development and Protection, General Executive Agency of Court Decision, Secretariat of the Coordination Council for Crime Prevention, National Police Agency and Immigration Agency of Mongolia.
The UN Human Rights Committee will issue its concluding observations on the report of Mongolia at the end of the current session on March 21.
