On February 26, 2025, Permanent Representative of Mongolia H.E. Ms. Gerelmaa Davaasuren participated in the high-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) in Geneva, where she delivered a speech on the policies pursued by the Government of Mongolia in the field of international peace, security, and disarmament.

She also noted that the complete elimination of nuclear weapons is a priority goal for Mongolia in the field of international peace, security, and disarmament. She informed the CD that in December 2024, the Mongolian Parliament ratified the revised small quantities protocol, and stressed the importance of nuclear-weapon states providing negative security assurances by not using or threatening to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon states.

In her statement, she highlighted that the CD has been unable to initiate multilateral treaty negotiations on disarmament issues for over 20 years, emphasizing the importance of the political will of member states to end this deadlock.

The CD was established in 1979 as the sole international forum for disarmament negotiations, stemming from the special session of the United Nations General Assembly on disarmament in 1978. The CD has been responsible for negotiating key multilateral disarmament treaties.
