AMBASSADOR MET WITH DR. THIERRY CARREL ON THE FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THE HEALTH COOPERATION
Ambassador D. Gerelmaa held a meeting with Dr. Thierry Carrel, a Swiss cardiac surgeon on January 29, 2025.
At the meeting, Dr. Thierry Carrel, who has been working in Mongolia on a humanitarian basis in the implementation of the “Heart Remembers” joint project by the Swiss Development Agency and “Bundan” Mongolian NGO, shared his experience and views on further cooperation and potential medical assistance in Mongolia.
Ambassador D. Gerelmaa expressed her gratitude for Dr. Carrel’s endeavours and noted that both countries’ willingness to expand healthcare cooperation and achievements in capacity-building of doctors and specialists, short and long-term trainings and experience sharing visits.
Ambassador emphasized the importance of the “Heart Remembers” project, implemented by the Mongolian NGO “Bundan” with the funding and support of the Swiss Development Agency, which aims on the timely medical assistance to the children with congenital heart disease and those living in remote areas who are in special need of medical care.
Ms. Stephanie Burri, former head of the Ulaanbaatar office of the Swiss Development Agency and other representatives from SDC and the Embassy were present at the meeting.
Currently, Mongolia and Switzerland have number of cooperation agreements, namely, MOU between the National Center for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia and the University Hospital of Zurich of Switzerland (2023), as well as MOU between the National Cancer Center of Mongolia and the University Hospital of Geneva of Switzerland (2024).
